The Choice We Have

I am not going to be entirely unhappy with either candidate, Sen. Barack Obama or Sen. Hillary Clinton, because I expect that both will try to do largely the same things in the same way. We have, essentially, this MAD TV video:

Obama and Clinton are saying almost exactly the same things regarding policy, just in different ways. That is when they aren't busy fighting about whether one of them is a woman or if one of them is black, etc...

Personally I like Hillary. She has already had all the crap shovelled at her. Her opponents don't have a whole lot left to shovel. Obama on the other hand faces a huge steaming mountain of fresh crap that will be shoveled at him. Therefore I think Hillary will get more accomplished.

Barack may be the more inspirational and motivational but that doesn't mean, good intentions or not, that he will be able to push his agenda better than Hillary. Indeed that might work against him when he comes up against the massive inertia that is otherwise known as our nation's capital.

Regardless, we are fighting about two people who we all are fairly certain want the same things we want. Are we going to let this get screwed up? Haven't we all spent a personal hell of eight years waiting for this moment. Is it really worth throwing all of that away because you like Barack better than Hillary or Hillary better than Barack.

Step back. Take a deep breath. Figure out what it is you are fighting for. Then go out and do it. Try to make sure you aren't destroying your own dreams with the battles you are fighting before you fight them.

Comments welcome,

Pat McGovern
