Aides Say They Expect Spitzer to Resign

Top aides to Gov. Eliot Spitzer said Tuesday morning that they expect the governor to resign his office, although the timing of the resignation remains uncertain. Lt. Gov. David A. Paterson and his staff have begun laying the groundwork for him to take over as governor and are reaching out to members of the Legislature.

Looks like Governor Spitzer's days are numbered. A rather shocking and sudden end to such a long road to the statehouse. It darn well proves that you better be squeaky clean yourself if you want to be or are a merciless prosecutor of those who break and/or break the law. I am not saying that his targets did not deserve their fate, just that his unwillingness to give any quarter in his zealous prosecutions precludes any ability to ask for any quarter himself now.

Made our own fate now, didn't we?

Next up? Who the heck is (most likely) soon to be Governor David A. Paterson?

Interesting development with someone who has been so zealous in pursuing wrongdoers over the years. Here is an excerpt from the ABC News article:

In a interview two years ago, Spitzer, then-attorney general, told ABC News he had some advice for people who break the law. "Never talk when you can nod, and never nod when you can wink, and never write an e-mail because it's death. You're giving prosecutors all the evidence we need," he said.

It seems as if the former longtime Attorney General turned Governor is not as crafty at fooling his own ilk as he would think. Wink, wink, nod, nod.
