Even Armey says so

Via the Washington Post:

“Did Dick Cheney. . . purposely tell me things he knew to be untrue?..I seriously feel that may be the case. . . Had I known or believed then what I believe now, I would have publicly opposed [the war] resolution right to the bitter end, and I believe I might have stopped it from happening.”

That folks, is a quote from Dick Armey as taken from Barton Gellman's book Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency.

Yep, Dick Armey is now calling out the Dark Lord himself.

Cheney: "She's a Good Candidate"

My how times change. Dick Cheney and George W. Bush have endorsed the selection of Sarah Palin, for better or for worse. We knew about Bush's 'endorsement' from the convention when he addressed the crowd via Satelite. This is the first we've heard from the Dark Lord, I mean Vice President, however. From The Trail:

"We've had all kinds of vice presidents over the years. Everybody brings a different set of experiences to the office and also a different kind of understanding with whoever the president is," Cheney told the group of reporters traveling with him in Rome.

"Each administration is different," added Cheney, whose long experience in Washington before becoming Bush's running mate laid the groundwork for his role as one of the most powerful vice presidents in history.

"And there's no reason why Sarah Palin can't be a successful vice president in a McCain administration. It won't look exactly like the Bush administration or the first Bush administration, the Ford administration. It'll be relatively unique to this president and this time that they're in office."

He goes on to say:

"I think she's a good candidate, and I don't see any reason why she can't be an effective vice president."

That seem to run around the experience issue. He seemed to have a very different idea of how important experience and preparation were four years ago.

It's a very significant responsibility when you consider that at a moment's notice you may have to take over as president of the United States and make all of those decisions. It's happened several times in our history.

And I think that probably is the most important consideration in picking a vice president, somebody who could take over.

I guess ignoring facts are not the only thing that neo-conservative Republicans are good at. Ignoring ability, as has also been evidenced by the Bush administration with Mike Brown and Alberto Gonzales, is also a hallmark trait. At least, when it comes to their own.

Now, considering the Vice-President's popularity is somewhere south of even his boss, I don't know if this help or hinders McCain Palin. Given how happy they were to keep George W. Bush and Dick Cheney away from St. Paul, MN, it may be that they aren't all that happy that they are talking about this now either. It sure isn't helping to sway me to the cause.

"No way, no how, no McCain, no Palin!"

Here we go folks, let's listen to Hillary in Florida:



Now, here is what I said on August 29, after Sarah Palin's introduction speech:

The fact that she had the gall to bring up Hillary's 18 million cracks! OMG! If Hillary wasn't invested in Obama before, she sure as hell will be now! Hillary will work overtime to make sure that ceiling holds for at least four more years.

I think that the 18 million cracks reference was a serious tactical mistake by the McCain campaign. Did they vet the speech? Did they think Hillary would take that sitting down?

I think Hillary will volunteer herself for attacking this one personally now. She may not have been a willing attack dog before but look out now. No half term governor, former mayor of a city of less than 9,000 people is going to hijack what she started, after all the time and effort she put into this, especially if she will not benefit from it.

Here is where is begins. She will not attack her as a woman. She will attack her ideas. She will attack them mercilessly. She will attack them more often and more intensely than she would have if John McCain had picked anybody else.

That is not being petty. This woman represents absolutely none of the values that Hillary Clinton has based her career on. They are diametrically opposed. That is why she will campaign, and campaign hard for Barack Obama now.

What I really love is that she is not directly calling out Sarah Palin on adopting her "18 million cracks" line in that speech. The Democrats have learned so much. It almost makes me want to cry.

They are staying on message. The message is voting for McCain/Palin is four more years of Bush/Cheney (albeit without the Dark Lord himself). And they are staying on that message. No distractions.

And now, because of Governor Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton will also be pounding that message home for the next 2 months. It's amazing.

Will wonders never cease?
